I am super excited to be involved in this fantastic opportunity for YA writers!! You will NOT want to miss this one, trust me. The lovely S.M. Johnston is holding a contest called Get Your Pitch On. And starting October 1st, I will be hosting some of the pitches here on my blog, giving you a chance to get it all sparkly perfect before the actual contest begins.

 Here's your chance to get your pitch smack dab directly in front of  Commissioning and Managing Editor of Hardie Grant Egmont, Marisa Pintado.  She'll  be all set and ready to take pitches on two sites that are sponsoring the event---Down Under Wonderings and YAtopia. It's all happening on October 15th.

And it gets better!
Marisa is looking for YA in any genre and she's accepting submissions from any where in the world.

You know how we all cringe and pull our hair out praying to get past the slush readers? There are none. Nada. Zilch. You don't have to get past slush pile readers in this one, you get to put your pitch right under the nose of a fantastic editor. Now wait, before you run and grab your pitch, there is more!

There's no limit on how many requests Marisa will make from the contest. I know, crazy....right?

But first, THE RULES:
(pay attention, cuz yeah, they're important.)

• Your manuscript must be complete, polished and ready to query - this means no first drafts or almost finished manuscripts.
• It must be YA.
• When the contest goes live on October 15th, post your entry details in the comments section of either YAtopia or Down Under Wonderings - each blog is accepting 100 entries only.
• Your entry detail needs to include a 50 - 70 word pitch.
• You can enter more than once if you have more than one complete, polished, ready to query manuscript. (!!!) <--------- Notice this one!!

Pitch: Fourteen-year-old Dorothy was carried up, up, and away by a terrible, nasty tornado. Now she's been living in a land of scarecrows, witches, giant heads, and other things that go bump in the night. She has to figure out a way home to her beloved Auntie Em before a heffallump or woozle takes her away--forever!


(Now, obviously....I took a tad bit of creative license with that one.) ;-)





Now, obviously you want to make your pitch as spectacular as possible before you put it under an agents nose, yes?

That's what the Get Your Pitch On Workshop is all about. The workshop begins on October 1st, and gives YA writers a chance to receive feedback on the pitch while providing feedback to other writers at the same time.
