She never wanted to return.
He wants nothing more than for her to leave.
But the fire between them is as strong as the past that haunts them.
Annie Freemont grew up on the road, immersed in the romance of rare things, cultivating an eye for artifacts and a spirit for bargaining. It’s a freewheeling life she loves and plans to continue—until her dad is diagnosed with dementia. His illness forces them to return to Moonhill, their ancestral home on the coast of Maine—and to the family they left behind fifteen years ago, after Annie’s mother died in a suspicious accident.

Once at Moonhill, Annie is shocked when her aunt separates her from her father. The next time Annie sees him, he’s a bizarre, violent shadow of his former self. Confused, she turns to an unlikely ally for support—Chase, the dangerously seductive young groundskeeper. With his dark good looks and powerful presence, Chase has an air of mystery that Annie is irresistibly drawn to. But she also senses that behind his penetrating eyes are secrets she can’t even begin to imagine. Secrets that hold the key to the past, to Annie’s own longings— and to all of their futures. Now, to unlock them, she’ll have to face her greatest fears and embrace her legacy...

When did you first know that you wanted to become a writer?
Writing and creating stories has always been something I loved. But I never considered writing as a profession until my senior year in high school. However, my desire was quickly dampened in college when I was discouraged from writing fantasy or category romance. Still, writing remained a creative outlet and something I knew I’d come back to.
In your words, what is your book about?
A Hold on Me is a paranormal tale of love, determination, and dark magic rooted in a family’s mysterious past.
What is the hardest part about being an author?
Never settling for good enough. It’s easy to stop revising a manuscript when it’s free of grammatical and basic issues. It’s harder to push a novel to the next level: find more depth, take risks, and to strive for excellence instead of just publishable—and to do this while meeting deadlines.
What is your favorite part?
Let me see. There are so many wonderful parts. I mean, how can you beat creating your own worlds, characters, and adventures, and then getting to share them with people.
What kinds of things do you like to do in your free time (when not writing)?

I love going to museums, historic sites,
and nature centers. Oh, I can’t forget yard sales and bazaars. Basically, I
love to get out, meet new people, and learn new things. I’m not too fussy.
What book are you reading now?
I was lucky enough to score an ARC of Gyre by Jessica Gunn. It’s a wonderful new adult fantasy, simply outstanding. In fact, when I get done with this interview, I’m going to dive back into it. I can’t wait!

What are some of your favorite books of 2015?
This was a fantastic year for books and I loved so many of the new releases. Okay, I’ll just name the first four that pop into my mind. All of these were fantastic, well written, super enjoyable, and have stuck with me. They’re books that I’ll probably read a second time.
Darkness Brutal by Rachel Marks
Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick\
The Seat of Magic by Kathleen Cheney
The Secret of Attraction by Robin Constantine
What was your favorite book as a child?
Actually, I was a slow reader in the early grades. That changed when a fifth grade teacher gave me The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. I’d always loved poetry and that book expanded my love of story, words and rhythm. Itspoke to my heart and is one childhood favorite that I still periodically reread.

Smart. Determined. Passionate.
What are you working on now?
What are you working on now?
I’m polishing book 2 in the Dark Heart
series. It’s being released next September and I’m so freaking excited.
This story is a wild ride of twists and turns. Also, Annie must face an additional
antagonist, one that challenges her heart as well as her determination
and smarts.
