It was just supposed to be one crazy night...

Iris Clayton is supposed to be on a tropical island, soaking up the sun and a few dozen mojitos. Instead, she’s snowbound in Chicago overnight, holding out hope the morning flight isn’t cancelled. Good thing there’s a hot cowboy to keep her company. And it doesn’t hurt that Mr. Tall, Calm, and Sun-Streaked can make her tremble with one sultry look from under his well-worn hat.

Montana rancher Nash Wallace sucks at ice skating, has no clue what a selfie is, and may be a tad averse to breaking and entering, but being with Iris makes him want to bend a few rules. Or, hell, throw them out the window altogether. She’s fun, spontaneously crazy, and can rock a Muppet fur coat like no one’s business. He’s falling hard and fast, but wanting to spend his life with someone after one night is insane.

Except, nothing has ever felt so right, and neither of them wants the night to end...

When did you first know that you wanted to become a writer?
I’ve been writing stories since I was very little. It was always something I wanted to do, but I didn’t really decide to go for it until about 12 years ago. I started writing while my son took his naps though it took me another 2 years to finish that book and start querying :)

In your words, what is your book about?
A free-spirited nurse and a laid-back rancher who spend an adventurous night in snowed-in Chicago having fun, learning what they really want out of life, and falling in love.

What is the hardest part about being an author?
Probably the same as with most jobs – figuring out how to balance work with life :) Plus, so much of being a professional author involves a lot of non-writing activities so trying to find the time to actually write while doing everything else, plus real-life and family stuff, can be difficult.

What is your favorite part?
Seeing all that work pay off in the end, when the book is finished, wrapped in a fabulous cover, and is out in the world being read. It can be incredibly nerve wracking :) But there is absolutely nothing better than hearing from people who loved your stories :)

What kinds of things do you like to do in your free time (when not writing)?
I play piano, though not as often as I used to. And I love to bake, especially cakes. I don’t get to do that often either so I’m always volunteering to bring cupcakes in for my kids’ class parties and I have a lot of fun making their birthday cakes. Mostly, I try to hang out with my kids. And READ. Anything I can get my hands on :)

What book are you reading now?
Ballance’s new book, For Seven Nights Only. It releases in Jan also and is absolutely hilarious and deliciously romantic. I love everything she writes :D

What are some of your favorite books of 2015?
I haven’t had much time to read this year, so when I’ve I’ve had a minute I’ve mostly re-read favorites – the Sookie Stackhouse series, Harry Potter, the Outlander series. I did just finish Jennifer Armentrout’s Oblivion and loved it. The whole Lux series is incredible.

What was your favorite book as a child?
Victoria Holt was my all time favorite romance writer. Historical romances were my first love :) I really love A Wrinkle in Time and the Clan of the Cave Bear series also.

Describe your hero in three words.
Loyal, hard-working, passionate.

His lips descended, and Iris sank into him, molding herself to him as best she could through a million layers of clothes and the perils of the frozen danger zone beneath their feet. His lips were somehow soft and firm at the same time, and so exquisitely warm that she momentarily forgot that they stood in the middle of a frozen rink, snow falling all around them. Heat emanated from the lips caressing hers, spreading through her, making her burn for him. He pulled back for a second to cup her face in both his hands, and the cold air that swirled between them was shocking in its intensity. Then he was back, his mouth more insistent, his hands cradling her face. She opened to him, letting him explore, taste. He could have devoured her whole, and she would have willingly submitted.
Someone hooted in the background, but the noise was so faint she barely noticed. In that moment, there was nothing but him in her world. Nothing but that musk scent that she couldn’t identify but was so supremely Nash that she wanted to bottle it and swim in it every day for the rest of her life. Nothing but the heat that filled her from where his lips moved hungrily over hers, stealing her breath and, if she wasn’t careful, her heart. Good God, one kiss and she was addicted. She didn’t want to stop.
When he finally released her, she merely stared up at him, unable to do more than blink, stunned and reeling from the absolute best first kiss she’d ever had in her life. That was it. He’d fly out of her life the next day, and she’d have to become a nun because nothing, ever, was going to top that.
She should be embarrassed at her reaction, but Nash didn’t give her time to let that feeling take hold.
“Would it sound too unmanly of me to say wow?” he asked.
Iris laughed, a short burst of pent-up air exhaling in an eruption of happiness that made no sense to her. “Not at all,” she assured him. “Though I was thinking more along the lines of holy shit.”
He grinned and her stomach flip-flopped. What the hell was happening to her? Lust, she understood. And she was feeling plenty of that. If it wasn’t cold enough to freeze off the body parts she most wanted to take for a spin, she’d strip them both right here and do what they could to melt the rink they stood on. But this wasn’t just lust. She seemed to be in serious danger of going all Disney-princess—running amok in the park whilst singing of true love’s first kiss to all the furry little animals. And she was just not that kind of girl.
