Raleigh Williams made a promise to his brother before he died, that he’d scatter his ashes on Mars. Desperate to leave a life of bad memories behind and start over in the Martian colony, Raleigh fully intends to keep that promise. But his plans are thwarted when a meteor near-misses him in the desert, and Raleigh finds in its crater not debris or even a spacecraft, but a man covered in swirling scars and with no memory of who he is. At least he looks like a man—a man Raleigh can’t seem to keep his eyes off of—but whenever they touch it ignites a memory swap between them.

Raleigh agrees to help Meteor Man piece together his life through their cosmic connection. But the memory share goes both ways, and Raleigh becomes inexplicably entangled with a guy who is everything he needs—everything good that Raleigh is not—but might not even be human. As their minds and worlds collide, reality unravels and Raleigh must face a painful truth, one that could shatter his dreams of finding love, reaching Mars, and fulfilling his brother’s last wish.

When did you first know that you wanted to become a writer?

Only in my twenties. I thought that perhaps I wanted to be an academic writer and combine my passion for music with writing by going into research, but I quickly discovered that I much preferred writing fiction. It was only once I signed with my first agent that I really knew I wanted to make writing into more than just a hobby.

In your words, what is your book about?

Scardust is about an ex-juvenile delinquent dreams of becoming an astronaut. That dream gets derailed when he finds a beat-up amnesiac in the Texas desert, and is forced to confront a painful truth that could shatter both his dream of Mars and his heart.

What is the hardest part about being an author?

The constant self-doubt and fear that your book isn't good enough or commercial enough to make it in this increasingly competitive market. Also, learning to balance the day job and life with writerly things has proved challenging this year.

What is your favorite part?

Being able to spend an entire day in my pyjamas and at the end of it knowing it was an entirely productive and well-spent day as evidenced by my word count ;) Also getting to meet and network with other awesome authors, and even more awesome readers. I love interacting with other members of the SF/F community online and IRL at cons.

What kinds of things do you like to do in your free time (when not writing)?

Rock climbing! I also love getting out into nature with my dog, be that short jogging sessions or more epic hikes through the wilderness. My first love will probably also be music, so I try to get in some sessions on the piano and flute as well when the writing schedule allows.

What book are you reading now?

I'm currently reading Perdido Street Station by China Mieville and Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater. Maggie Stiefvater is quite easily my favouritest YA author of all time!

What are some of your favorite books of 2015?

Without a doubt The Sandman Overture graphic novel from Neil Gaiman, but I also loved The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma, Shadowshaper by Daniel Jose Older and Delicate Monsters by Stephanie Kuehn.

What was your favorite book as a child?

Oh, so many! As a really young kid, I loved the picture books The Whales' Song and The Winter Warming. As a teenager, my favourite books were fantasy novels by Caiseal Mor, Juliet Marillier and Stephen Lawhead.

Describe your hero in three words.

Complicated. Self-deprecating. Determined.

What are you working on now?

Right now I'm working on a fantasy novel, which is something new and different for me, but I'm loving it!

Author Bio:

The author of THE OTHER ME, I HEART ROBOT and the forthcoming SCARDUST, Suzanne is a tattooed storyteller from South Africa. She currently lives in Sweden and is busy making friends with the ghosts of her Viking ancestors. Although she has a Master’s degree in music, Suzanne prefers conjuring strange worlds and creating quirky characters. When she grows up, she wants to be an elf – until then, she spends her time (when not writing) wall climbing, buying far too many books, and entertaining her shiba inu, Lego.
